Yes, in my organization (Sukkur IBA) where I am currently working, there is a clear vision, mission statement and purpose. And we as the employees are very clear about the vision and mission statement.

Our Vision is given below;

"To become the center of excellence in Business Administration and Information Technology" (Reference taken from the web site of Sukkur IBA (www.iba-suk.edu.pk)

The vision is to make Sukkur IBA, one of the most valuable, famous and best Institute not only in Pakistan but in the world. Till now there is not even a single university of Pakistan is in a world ranking, It's our dream to show the name of Sukkur IBA in the list of the world best Business and IT institutes.

Our mission statement is given below;

"Sukkur IBA's goals and objectives are to provide quality education through modern teaching style, market-oriented curriculum on affordable cost. Our purpose is to develop strength in faculty, assist business organizations by consultancy and creating research and congenial environment, fulfilling our commitment to community in building national character and economic development. Sukkur IBA is not only producing employable graduates who are accepted in the market like hot-cake but it is also promoting knowledge based economic development of this region." 2- Are the values clear? Are the vision and values widely embraced by organizational members?

Answer:

Yes, values are very much clear to all the employees. And the values are well communicated with employees, faculty and students. Sukkur IBA value three things, which are given below;

3- Are organizational members aligned with the vision?

Answer:

Yes, all the members of the organizations are aligned with the vision, mission and values of the Sukkur IBA. The management gives the positive reinforcement to those employees who are taking very seriously the vision, mission and values of the Sukkur IBA in the form of rituals, rewards, best employee, best teacher, best research etc. And management gives the punishment to those employees who are not on the standard of Sukkur IBA in the form of firing, demotion etc.

4- From your personal experiences and from research, what are the consequences of having organizational members aligned to vision/values?

Answer:

From my personal experience and research the management gives the following rewards to organization members who align with vision, mission and values;

1- Positive reinforcement

2- Promotion in Job Scales

3- Salary Increment

4- Bonuses

5- Family Tours in the month of either June or July or December

6- Scholarship for MS and PhD

7- Best employee of the month / semester / Year

8- Management gives opportunity to the best employee to attend national and international workshops and conferences

9- Management involves the best employees in decision making. And also in some cases give them the empowerment.

10- Management gives the car and home facility to best employees.

5- What are the consequences of having organizational members who are not aligned to vision / values?

Answer:

From my personal experience and research the management gives the following punishment to organization members who are not aligned with vision, mission and values;

1- Punishment

2- Demotion in Job Scales

3- No Salary Increment

4- They are not given any empowerment.

5- In some cases firing from the job

6- How do leaders align members to the organizational vision and inspire productive organizational behaviors?

Answer:

Usually the leaders of the organization arrange meetings in which they motivate the employees about the vision, mission and values of the organization. Often, the workshops, training sessions, dinners or lunches are arranged by the upper management to communicate the key values of the organizations. In the training sessions the management invites all the employees to attend the training and they keep attendance mandatory for all the employees. In the training the employees can learn how to follow the values, maintain discipline, ethics in the organization. One very important thing whenever Human Resource Department hires any resource/s they arrange the orientation ceremony for all the new employees in which they HR manager communicates with the new employees and tell them about the values, mission and vision of the organization. Besides these events upper management and employee also discuss the core values of the organization informally.

1- Where does change occur in an organization?

Answer:

There is a saying that "The largest room in the world is the room of improvement". So for improvement we have to bring the changes for the betterment of the organization to face the current challenges and acquire the opportunities.

Normally change occurs in the structure of the organization, policies of the organizations, rules and regulations of the organization, processes and SOPs of the organization and team structures.

2- What or who does change impact?

Answer:

The change impacts on Standard Operating Procedures, technology, employees, middle and lower management.

3- What are the implications of change for organizational behavior?

Answer:

There may be positive or negative implications on any change in the organizations.

Positive implications are;

We can have better processes

We can have better working environment

Bring Job satisfaction for the innovative employees who love changes.

Better Technology

Bring more profit

Open the doors of new opportunities

Face new and innovative challenges

Better organizational structure

Negative implications are;

Employee resistance in change

Demotivation in employees may occur

No job satisfaction for those employees who are not innovators

Work Performance of the employees may reduce due to new change

Factor of risk may arise

4- Provide an example of a change that has occurred in your organization in the last 12 months.

Answer:

Our organization has recently changes the Management Information System. Previously we have made our own MIS system for HR, Finance, Academics, Library, Examination department etc. But recently we have purchased an ERP system and we call it CMS (Campus Management System). This CMS is built on PeopleSoft framework. This framework has been built using Oracle. In whole Pakistan only 9 universities are using this CMS such as LUMS, DOW, Quiad-ie-Azam University Sukkur-IBA, Karachi IBA etc. The main advantage of using this CMS is that all the universities who implemented this CMS are interlinked with one another with the help of this CMS. We they can share valuable data in just a second on a mouse click.

5- What was the result of that change? Was the change effective? Was it ineffective? Why?

Answer:

The results were 79& positive and 21% negative.

The change was 79% effective because most of the employees love this system because previous system had some bottlenecks, which are not present in the current system. The members of the organization are mostly aware of the technology that's why they do not find it so difficult and easily adapt the new system. And the employees the employees think that with the adaption of this new system they can manage their work more effectively and efficiently.

The change was 21% ineffective because some employees from the English department, math department and Islamiat department thought that this new system is quite difficult from the old one and they resist in the implementation of this new system.

6- What could have or should have been done differently?

Answer:

One thing, which could have been done, is that we stuck with the old system and make some changes in old system. By doing all the members of the organization could become happy and motivated towards job and they may have complete job satisfaction.

7- What are the reasons that change is resisted?

Answer:

The reasons are given below;

The employees were familiar users with the old systems

The employees had become the habitat of old system and were afraid of new adapting new systems

Some of the employees were weak in adapting new system.

Some employees were not so much good at computers and computer program

Some employees from Islamiat department and math department are slow learner and they are not technically sound in computers

8- How can leaders plan, lead, and sustain change to overcome resistance to change?

Answer:

To overcome resistance to change the management of Sukkur IBA took the following steps;

First of all management collects some facts and figures and make a strong case with evidence to show the need of the new system.

The management before taking the decision took all the employees in confidence and then went for the new Change.

The management arranged the training sessions, workshops and distribute the help manuals of new system among the employees

The management arrange on IT consultant, which consult with other members (non technical) of the organization and help them to solve their problems.

The management frequently communicates the advantages of the new system with the members of the organization.

Answer:

According to Maslow's hierarchy of needs theory, I am completed satisfied by physiological needs, social needs and a little bit from esteem needs. But I need safety, esteem and self actualization.

3- How do you attempt to satisfy your motivational needs within your organization?

Answer:

To satisfy my motivational needs I work like a professional in my organization. I have strong and long term commitment in my expertise in my job. I show my loyalty to my job and employer. I am regularly updating my knowledge and actively involved in research and development. I usually actively participate in meetings and convey new ideas with my management for making more profit.

4- What opportunities does your organization provide to satisfy your needs and the needs of your coworkers?

Answer:

5- What suggestions can you make for how your organization could better meet the needs and motivate positive organizational behavior? Based on your findings, write a two- to three-page paper in APA format.

Answer:

For any manager it's very important to understand the motivational needs of n employee. Sometimes whatever motivates manager may not really motivate the subordinates. So, it's extremely important to understand the motivational needs of an employee to manage the organizational behavior and reducing the turnover in organization.

Different employees have different motivational needs. For Example an employee of higher rank may be motivated by gain sharing or autonomy, while an employee of lower rank may be motivated by cash allowance, employee recognition programs etc.

So, being a manager, you should list all the motivational needs and prioritize the following motivational needs according to what is important to particular employee
