Olive oil has beneficial effects on the human body. Olive oil is particularly known because it is rich in antioxidants. Its high consumption in the diet provides considerable protection against colon, breast and skin cancer, coronary heart disease, cholesterol and aging by inhibiting oxidative stress. Olive oil has been obtained from different processes, and itââ‚¬â„¢s categorized by using quality standards. There are different types of its oil: Extra Virgin olive oil, virgin olive oil, refined olive oil, and pressed olive oil. Extra virgin Olive oil is one of the few oils that can be consumed without chemical processing. Virgin olive oil is obtained only from the olive, the fruit of the olive tree, using solely mechanical or other physical means in conditions, particularly thermal conditions, which do not alter the oil in any way. It has not undergone any treatment other than washing, decanting, centrifuging and filtering. It excludes oils obtained by the use of solvents or re-etherification methods, and those mixed with oils from other sources. Refined olive oil is obtained from virgin olive oils by refining methods which do not lead to alterations in the initial glycerolise structure. Pressed olive oil can be consumed immediately, and it retains the natural flavours, vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants of the ripe olive fruit.
During the last years, there have been differents studies about the olive oil, specially those which refers to the field of the human health. Many researchers believe that the constituents of the olive oil, such as flavonoids, squalene, and polyphonies may help to protect against cancer. Flavonoids and polyphones are antioxidants which help to prevent cell damage from oxygen-containing chemicals called radicals. The latest researches have shown that Olive oil can contribute to the human health by reducing and preventing heart diseases, cholesterol problems, and cancer.
Researchers suspect olive oil protects against bowel cancer by influencing the metabolism of the gut. The olive oil cuts the amount of a substance is called deoxycyclic acid, and regulates the enzyme diamine oxidise which may be linked to cell division in the bowel. Dietary olive oil has also shown to help in the prevention of the colon cancer development, and it has been postulated that the healthy effects of the olive oil may be partly due to a lowering of inflammation made in the gut. So it is proved that olive oil has anti-inflammatory effects. Added to it, studies have demonstrated that this oil also slowed breast cancer, and that diet which contains olive oil led to fewer and smaller tumours.
Olive oil helps to reduce blood pressure levels. The amount of antihypertensive medication to control blood pressure can be reduced in 48% if olive oil is consumed in the normal diet. Cholesterol and triglyceride levels are a slightly low on an olive oil diet. There are as many as 5 mg of antioxidant polyphonies (absent in sunflower oil) in every 10 grams of olive oil. Polyphones have been shown to reduce coronary artery disease and may be the substance lowering blood pressure. Antioxidants reduce nitric acid levels, a substance in the body known to raise blood pressure. The polyphone content is one possible reason of the lower pressure .Polyphone are potent antioxidants which help arteries dilate reducing blood pressure.
Atherosclerosis is another healthy problem related to the cholesterol levels. Atherosclerosis is the process of plaque formation, thickening and blocking of the arteries which can lead to heart attacks and stroke. LDL cholesterol, the "bad" cholesterol is thought to be partially responsible for these changes when it oxidizes in the artery wall. It has been hoped that antioxidants from olive oil in the diet would be found to decrease atherosclerosis. A recent study looked at the basic disease process behind heart attacks; the development of blood clots which block the coronary arteries. Several studies in Mediterranean countries have shown that the incidence of heart disease is lower than would be expected by blood cholesterol levels. Olive oil provides enough protection against heart disease. People who eat rich antioxidants foods, such as the olive oil, have a lower chance of getting coronary heart diseases, heart attacks, and arthrosclerosis, but still there is a difference among some of these natural foods that provides those antioxidants.Animal fats have cholesterol, so those have to be avoided. Plant oils never contain cholesterol but those which are deliberately saturated to stay solid at room temperature cause oxidative damage with resulting accelerated heart disease. Monosaturated fats such as olive oil are the best. Even because it also prevents heart attacks, and stroke. Olive oil is mono-saturated so has no saturated fat, and it contains substances, the flavenoids, which exert some of the same effects as Omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-3s exert their health benefits by blocking inflammatory substances made by the body and disrupting the function of platelets, a part of the blood clotting machinery. The ratio of Omega-3 to other acids is very good in olive oil.
Olive oil is one of the most healthiest natural oils which helps to reduce the risks of cancer, blood pressure, heart diseases and cholestrol. What grab my attention that I found the olive is one of the greatest fruit in Qur'an ( the holy book for Muslims) rather than any other fruit which means it has great benefits. We advice that the olive oil should be included in every diet to have a healthy diet for a better life.
