Chlorogenic acid, a major group of phenolic compounds found in coffee and the active constituents in various weight loss supplements, have been shown to inhibit the glucose-6-phosphatase enzyme system in vitro (2). Glucose-6-phosphatase catalyzes the formation of glucose from the liver and has a pivotal role in blood glucose regulation (3). Thus, it has been surmised that chlorogenic acids in the coffee may be responsible, at least in part, for the reduced risk of glycemic disorders with long-term coffee use. The hypoglycemic effects of chlorogenic acids may also underlie its purported antiobesity effects. (Green coffee, 2012)

(Steven D. Ehrlich, 2011)

Scientific based Evidence - Hsu El al. conducted the study to examine effects of Green tea. He has chosen 100 obese women aged 16-60 years. Women were healthy and had a BMI greater than 27 kg/m2 and had not used other weight-control maneuvers within the last three months. Subjects were divided in two groups- Group A and Group B. GTE given to group A and cellulose as a placebo given to group B. Number of participants in group A was 41 and Group B had 37. Dosage for group: one capsule three times daily for 12 weeks. Subjects were not allowed to take any other weight loss supplements, to do exercise and required formal diet during the study. Body weight (BW), body mass index (BMI), and waist circumference (WC) were measured at the beginning of the study and after 12 weeks of treatment with GTE. Seventy-eight of 100 obese women completed this study. There was a 0.3% reduction in BW, BMI and WC. There were no any statical difference between GTE group and Placebo group. But patients taking GTE showed significant reduction in LDL and TG cholesterol and increased level of HDL.

Reporting to the Pharmacist

It is important to talk with patients about their weight awareness. Now two-thirds of American are overweight or suffering from Obesity. "In 2008, more than 1.4 billion adults, 20 and older, were overweight. Of these over 200 million men and nearly 300 million women were obese". (FactsheetN311, 2013). These all things connected with Diabetes and cardiovascular diseases. To prevent this issue, weight control is one of the important thing for them.

Counseling for patient is important for those who want to loss weight. "Research has shown that patients who were counseled in a primary care setting about the benefits of healthy eating and physical activity often took positive action. They lost weight and exercised more than patients who did not receive counseling." (weight-control information network, 2012)

I saw many products in the market; among them some were natural and some were synthetic. I found one of the best natural products for weight loss and it was LIPOFUGE. It is 100% natural and all ingredients are clinically proven safe. One of the main ingredients in this product is green coffee bean extract. It reduces the body's absorption of glucose and fat and chlorogenic acid is a key chemical player compound in coffee bean extract. At recommended doses, it inhibits the release of glucose which would prompt weight loss. (Andrew Weil, 2012). All of the above ingredients are not clinically proven safe for children. I would like to report my pharmacist about the recommended doses for different aged people and interact with other herbs and drugs. Ingredients are not tested on pregnant women. So there is no any specific safe data for pregnant and lactating women. I would like to report Pharmacist to counsel patient about this

I saw evidence of every ingredient and also its effectiveness. This product is 100% safe and every ingredient used in this product is natural. This product has no any adverse reaction. It effectively burns the body fat. When any one takes this medication as per recommended dose and good diet, it immediately digests food than normal speed, so it boosts he metabolism and body need more energy and the body will gain energy from fat stored inside the body. I would definitely encourage the Pharmacist to recommend this product to the patient for weight loss.
