Japan Custom Unaccompanied
Since July 1, 2007, when a tourist enter Japan territories, he/she is required to present the “Customs Declaration” form of your hand carried baggage and your unaccompanied luggage at the Customs Clearance area. These forms are obtainable on the ship, plane or at their office (Customs office).
Toiletry articles, clothes and any other private things that are for personal usage, together with those specialized gears that will be bring into play for the period of your stay in Japan, are all free of charge of taxes / duties, if they are deemed reasonable. Those unaccompanied luggage and private things that are intended for personal usage are free of taxes if fall within the specified allowance.

The number of cosmetics and pharmaceuticals, both non - prescription and prescription drugs and other supplements like mineral and vitamin supplements, a tourist can import in the country maybe limited.
Immigration
For terrorist prevention program, all travelers wanting to go into the country should subject themselves to facial and fingerprinting procedures. And then an examination for landing will be conducted by the immigration control officer. Any person who won't abide with the procedures will not be allowed to get into the country except:
- individual below 16 years old,
- individual having special permanent resident,
- individuals who perform activities that is under the status of Official or Diplomat,
- individuals who were invited by the chief of any administrative organization,
- individuals who are approved by the Ministry of Justice as either c) or d)
Permission for Landing at Port of Call
Shore passes are arranged to foreign commuters aboard on ship or plane that are going to another destination that are passing through Japan. These passes would allow a foreigner a temporary entry into the country for a period less than 3 days (72 hours) either for resting or shopping.
Permission for Landing in Transit
a) A pass for sight seeing.
Authorization is approved to foreign commuter that arrives on the country's port who desires to explore the country and would rejoin on the same ship at a different harbor in Japan. The validity of this permit is up to 15 days.
b) A pass for departure at a neighboring port.
A permit is granted to foreign commuters that are going off to another country that are just passing through Japan, who have an intention to enter the country from their first port then to the other port for departure. The validity of this type of permit is 3 days.
