Technology on our lives
Technology is a way of development according to an unimproved target. Technology is associated with innovation. It involves the transformation of ideas into something useful. Innovation is just not limited to creative people and organizations, but also involves the availability of technological and scientific talent. Technology and innovation are synergistic. Technology has definitely changed our lives and for the better.
Looking back in time, we realize how much our lives have changed due to the fruits of technology. It has provided us with freedom and less consumption of time and resources. Pointing out a particular technology for the drastic changes in one's life is simply not possible. A nation's economic growth can be measured according to the level of technology. This is because a number of factors are responsible for affecting an individual's life style. The most important factor for deciding the working of a particular technology is the presence of competition. One kind of technology seems beneficial only until a technological advancement does not occur.
The most effective piece of technology is the mobile phone, and now a days being equivalent to a civilization. Due to technological changes, the dependency upon technology has increased many folds. Some advancement occurs at such a pace that they become self-defeating. The ability to convert carbon dioxide into fuel energy is a breakthrough process and once well established in would change our dependency on nonrenewable and limited sources.
With time, the use of internet is rising rapidly. The World Wide Web literally connects over 700 million people round the globe. The state-of-the-art technology has improved our means of communication as well as our educational standards. Due to the innovations in technology, an individual can gain knowledge about any topic at any place and at any point of time in his/her life. It has allowed the ease of availability of education. It has also improvised upon ways to fulfill our needs and to meet our expectations. Innovations in today's tech-world can help us to solve urgent problems.
The revolution in technology has given rise to chat rooms, discussion rooms, personalized web pages and online databases. The IT sector has completely changed the outlook of human communication with e-mails, video conferencing and instant messaging. With the advent of technology, people are building bridges to decrease the distances in their mind. One basic drawback that has taken place is that people are becoming lethargic due to high trends in technology. It is shortening our ability to pay attention. Robotics, automation and computerization are on the go for changing our lives. Implementation of robotics will give higher efficiency and cheaper labor, thereby increasing unemployment rate.
Now the other side of technology is not so green. It is because of improvised technology only that we have seen nuclear and atomic wars. This has also leaded to increase in pollution as well as corruption. Hence, one must know how to balance between manpower and automation. In the world of automation, cars have created freedom as well as concrete jungle. Technology is affecting our near future so it becomes our responsibility to streamline it in the right direction.
Today's world is full of pieces of technology that we take for granted, the microchip has truly revolutionised the way in which we live and do business. The world we see would not be recognisable to people of a few generations ago and nowhere is this truism greater than in the world of computing. Hence it is important to stay up to date with technology news; while many may think that this type of news is purely for geeks it is clear that all of us should have at least a passing interest in news of technological developments.
Technology pretty much touches all of our lives in some way and hence technology news is a vital resource that can keep us up to date with developments and ways in which the world will be changing. For instance, the onset of digital television is something that will affect most people; news stories that inform us of the dates for the switch over are vital so the average member of public can understand when their analogue signal will be turned off. In the same way, news of technologies that may make our cars safer and more efficient is important to all those who drive on our roads.
Anyone of a reasonable age will remember the BBC's 'Tomorrow's World; a technological news show that brought us stories of the latest developments and the ways life would be changed in the future. It was as sad day when this news show was cancelled; maybe it meant that people were no longer interested in new technology. If people are less interested they should not be; being up to date with what is coming around the corner is just as important as being informed on the politics of the nation and world affairs.
Any lack of interest has been sidestepped by the internet, which has seen the creation of a platform for thousands of writers who feel it necessary to publish regular news stories on technological developments. It is not just the bedroom 'bloggers' however that is publishing detailed news stories. Major reporting institutions are now likely to have a technology dedicated page in order to cope with the huge demand for this kind of news.
The fact of the matter is that technology now covers such a diverse range of subjects that it would be foolish for any reporting company not to write stories on the genre. Technology can apply to elements of the medical industry as well as the automotive industry. It is this diversity that makes technology news articles so interesting to read and why subscribers from all over the world regularly catch up theses stories.
It can be argued that will now live in the 'computer age', whether this is true or not is a matter of conjecture but what can be assured is that we live a period where computers are becoming increasingly important to our way of life. Ultimately we are becoming evermore reliant on our computers and without them we would be lost; there are even news stories of some now being addicted to their computers and handhelds. This is the extent that technology has encroached upon our lives that people now do not feel the need to 'unplug'.
The phenomena is only set to continue, as computers become more powerful and have greater and greater applications it will not be long that we will plan our lives around the computer. This is not an attempt to act as a harbinger of doom, it is just theorising on ways in which technology will impact upon the human race. This is why keeping up to date with news stories about technology is so important, technology is about forward momentum and understanding what is at the crest of the wave is only half of the battle.
These days, the computer technology industry is rapidly growing and changing. Along with that growth and change of computer technology are the people who almost instantly adapt to the changes.
Computer technology has made our lives a lot easier and convenient. For instance our banking needs. Years ago, people had to manually file the important data of their customers; now they just use the computer to find these data. In just one click, they would instantly find the name of the customer, the birth date, the address, e-mail address, phone numbers and etcetera. As for the clients of these banks, they can also easily get a quick look at their account balances through logging in to the bank website; in addition to that a lot of people are able to apply for a loan with the use of the computer.
Because of the birth of computer technology, we now have credit cards or what others call plastic money, which are very useful especially when we do not have cash on hand or when you are ordering a certain product through the internet. It's amazing how computer technology has changed so much our way of living. Nowadays, purchasing products such as cellular phones, bags, household utensils, and clothes or even paying the bills can be effortlessly done at the comfort of your own home.
With the use of the computer a lot of students especially those with unfortunate disabilities or severe illnesses are able to enroll to different schools through home schooling. Students are even able to take their examination tests or check out their grades by the use of the computer.
As far I know computer technology has helped a lot of businesses to better serve the community. But the computers have not only helped us in the business industry; it also has an effect on our communication systems. Long before the computers were born, writing letters were the main source of communication, which would be such a hassle most especially to those people who lived in far away places; plus telephones were quite expensive so people would pretty much prefer writing to their loved ones. And for that reason, people who are far away from civilization would really have a hard time communicating with others. Now, we have e-mails, and live chat, or even voicemails. We now already have video calling in which we would be able to see the person that we are talking to. This would be really great for people who have loved ones that are away from home. Getting in touch with one another is now a piece of cake.
Computer technology has changed our lives for the better. Without it, we would still be living in the pre historic times.
one bad effect of technology on life is that with more technology placing barriers between people, face to face meetings happen less.
This small, simple change leads to a whole host of very serious problems with society in general. People are becoming more lazy; choosing to stay at home and play video games than go to a basketball game or get together with friends.
On top of that, the new barriers that are made because of technology gives those who are most effected by them a decaying sense of pride in their country. In fact, it is this lack of pride that has spurred many of the anti-American feelings that are felt and publicized by people of this very country.
Not all technology is bad or evil, but we do need to be careful that we don't become slaves (meaning obsessed with, not actual slaves) to our own creations. newspapers and local agencies and music stores have been forced to shut down since items are available online.
The number 1 negative effect is that people are not doing their own work anymore. Today more and more students are relying on the web to do the work for them. This can range from copying and pasting (plagiarism) to paying a web site to write a paper for them.
Studies have also shown net-based readers (people who do the majority of their reading on-line) are less able to determine what is and is not a valid source and are less skilled in critical reading and thinking.
Technology has blended in with daily activity to become a way of life and children today take for granted all of which is automated. It's hard for kids nowadays to imagine a world that existed without all the gadgets, electronics and seamless operations computer technology provides.
In many ways technology has improved quality of life, but as with anything else, there are always tradeoffs. One of the tradeoffs is the negative effects technology has on children, the generation who will become tomorrow's parents and leaders.
Here are a few of the negative effects of technology on kids:
- Instant Gratification
- Heightened Fear
One of the most prominent things technology does is nurture a societal philosophy of instant gratification. Technology enables things today to happen rapidly, and as a result children growing up in today's world have learned to expect immediate fulfilment.
The concepts of people living under the old adages of 'patience is a virtue' and of 'good things come to those who wait' are rapidly deteriorating as the younger generations don't have to wait for things they desire.
If kids want to hear a song, they can hop online and download it. No longer do kids have to patiently wait for Saturday morning to watch their favorite TV shows because there are a host of channels offering children's programming 24/7. Cell phones encourage text messaging and other features which allow instant access to virtually anything.
Is immediate access so bad? Maybe this isn't a problem per se, but over the course of time there is potential to develop into behavioural issues when a time comes where a child (or adult) has to wait. Is this their fault? After all they were born into the technical revolution where instantaneous fulfilment is the norm.
Higher rates of obesity are often attributed to technology. Kids today no longer spend their afternoons and weekends roaming their neighborhoods and playing in the backyard nearly as much as previous generations did.
Kids today tend to spend their time being entertained by television, video games, Internet and other electronic devices. Are kids really exercising less? Statistics seem to indicate this to be the truth and perhaps the lack of mobility is increasing obesity in society as a whole. A distinct negative effect.
In days of yesteryear, kids lived a more carefree life than those growing up in today's automated world. Today's constant access to news feeds showcases a plethora of the bad and unfortunate
The negative of the technology is that Generals of WWI were using strategies like the Generals in the American Civil War, "Charge the Army." This is how many soldiers lost their lives when charging the enemy. The machine gun wiped out advancing soldiers, but Generals kept using the same strategies making the war a stalemate for all 4 years.
A disadvantage of artillery in WWI was that Generals and high ranking officers thought that shelling the enemy would cause them to be discouraged and destroy their defensive, but only thing that it actually got done is alerting the enemy that a charge was inevitable by the other side.
Poison gas was also a technology used in WWI mostly by Germany to break the tench death-lock by the Western Allies. Germany made poison gas that was colorless making it difficult to actually tell if it was poison not until a soldier started to show symptoms of illness. Mustard gas was one of the worst poisons used by the Germans that their effects on a human are horrible.
The most disastrous battle in WWI was the Battle of Somme. This mostly set how the WWI was going to be fought, the reason for the huge stalemate in the Western Front. A whole British generation was wiped out in that single battle. Another disastrous battle were the landings of Gallipoli that prove to be disastrous landing were many soldiers were killed before reaching shore by machine gun fire.
The technolgy used in WWI could of been used better, but like I said earlier the tactics were tactics used by Generals of the American Civil War been the reason for a huge stalemate, that's a negative.
Positives (either developed FOR the war, or their production accelerated):
- Sulfa drugs (preventing infection of wounds)
- Penicillin (treating infections)
- developement of anti-malarials
- the Helicopter
- the Jet and Turbine Engines
- the development of mass produced shipping (the Liberty and Victory Ships)
- the Computer (used to calculate artillery tables)
- the aerosol can (for bug spray)
- Active and Passive Sonar
- Improved radios (smaller and lighter)
- Nuclear technology (France gets 70% of it's electricity from nuclear power)
- Pesticides and Insecticides
- Nuclear Weapons
- Medical testing performed on prisoners by Japan and Germany
- Testing of Biological weapons by Japan and Germany
- The development of DDT, a pesticide that worked GREAT... sadly, the birds that ATE the dead bugs suffered. It was banned in 1972.
