My DBA Admissions Essay is written with regard to common sense in actions and optimism in thought, this being my life guiding philosophy. I see JIU DBA as a continuation of a never-ending journey. This philosophy can be applied to any person, bringing needed challenges that encourage success on all levels. This philosophy has guided my life. It has been the catalyst for my books and published articles which have focused on positive solutions that are motivating. A connection that focuses on the positive encourages even greater positive. The past five years I have been engaged in lean thinking strategy consulting business. I have created balanced business approaches coast to coast in the United States, Mexico, and Canada. The JIU doctoral approach embodies my two point philosophy of common sense in actions, and optimism in thought. My consulting practice directly collaborates with professionals encompassing a range of professions, including education, health care, government, service business, and manufacturing business. The JIU doctoral program will bring even greater credibility and more opportunities to excel so I can better help improve the United States manufacturing base.
Some may say that humanity is complex beyond understanding. I cannot speak for every human being on Earth; I am not a complicated person to understand. My life's journey is based upon a two part simple but all-encompassing philosophy: common sense in actions and optimism in thought. This philosophy has guided my life from my earliest memories through grammar school, high school, United States Navy, undergrad school, to graduate school. With these two distinct attitudes, I differentiate myself with common sense in actions. I believe we have limited time upon this earth and every moment not fully appreciated is lost forever. Therefore, continuation of education is categorized as value added and is a never-ending journey regardless of it be academic or life learning. We have an obligation to continue the journey until our last breath. The other half of my philosophy; I am a hardcore optimist. I believe that I can change the world. My intent is to leave my mark upon people, one person at a time. My books and published articles are focused on positive solutions that are motivating. The general theme in my writing is that we must be relentless in being that positive force in every person with whom we come in contact. A positive force inspiring solutions that focus on the individual person's strengths; these solutions are sustainable because exploiting personal strengths creates the positive connection with that person. A connection that focuses on the positive, encourages even greater positive. My doctoral work will benefit from my desire to continue my learning process, yet an even greater benefit will be my desire to encourage others to continue their educational journey. Encouraging others by example is in it's self is the best role model a person can be, and my greatest achievement to date.
My motivation for pursuing doctoral study in business is directly related to my profession. For the past five years I have been engaged in lean thinking strategy consulting business, creating balanced business approaches coast to coast in the United States, Mexico, and Canada. My consulting commitments include a primary role as Lean Manufacturing and Operations Consultant for the U.S. Air Force Small Business Manufacturing Technical Assistance Production Program (MTAPP). MTAPP is affiliated with the Air Force Outreach Program Office and The Air Force Office of Small and Disadvantage Business Utilization (SAF/SB). My consulting practice has also included lecturing at Boeing Aircraft, Lockheed Martin, Rolls Royce, Northup Grumman, Raytheon, and United Technologies on various subjects such as Lean Thinking, Team Building, Quality Systems, ISO Registrar Selection, and Root Cause Analysis. In addition I have also taught Root Cause Analysis for the American Society for Quality (ASQ). On your Doctorate in Business Administration webpage, the first line states; “For those of you who seek the pinnacle in academic credentials”. This important statement sums it up perfectly, my personal academic goals have been focused, my consulting travels make it impossible to achieve my education goals in a classroom. In my consulting practice I collaborate with working professionals encompassing a range of professions, including education, health care, government, service business, and manufacturing business. The areas that I desire to explore in-depth during the JIU interdisciplinary doctoral program, that I call a non-tradition educating of the whole person, centered on leadership, and business improvement. Ultimately I see JIU has the means to achieve what I call the three characteristics of leadership; the leader as a person, the leader as an organization, and finally the leader able to contribute to the global markets. Simply to understand leadership from personal, organizational, and global markets perspectives that educates at the same level as becoming educated. Many books have been written about the phenomena call Lean Thinking, and Lean Manufacturing. What I have come to learn is not every book has been written yet, when a philosophy is inspired by common sense in actions, and optimism in thought that greater Lean concepts are waiting to be discovered. My doctoral studies will be focused on exploiting these unwritten discoveries as a method to once again grow, and improve the United States manufacturing industry.
