Magnet Motor Electricity

Introduction

A magnet motor is a device which converts power of or relating to or caused by magnetism (e.g., "magnetic forces") into mechanical force and motion, with no other input. It usually provides rotary mechanical motion. (PESWiki 2007). The principles behind of the electron magnet rotation were discovered by Michael Faraday around 1821. The experiment below demonstrates how to construct a simple magnet motor and why it works.

Material

The materials used in this experiment were; a piece of a Cooper wire, a magnet, an electrochemical cell (battery), a piece of polish paper, paper clips and elastic.

Method

The method for making the Magnet Motor.

Results

Results have demonstrated that when copper wires were connected into the terminal of the battery and a magnet placed next to it, a current of electricity flows making magnetic field and therefore the coil rotate.

Discussion

In a Magnet Motor, the magnet exerts a force on any piece of magnetic material such as iron or another magnet which is placed near it. This is due to magnetic field around the magnetic.

When a coil of wire is exposed to electricity it acts like a magnetic bar forming an electromagnet as one end becomes attracted to north- pole and the other end becomes attracted to south- pole. However, for the electricity to flow, a bit of the insulation of one side of the coil of copper wire have to be rubbed off as to break the current flow as copper is an excellent conductor of electricity and it also make one side of the coil of wire negative as the element of Cu is a negative ion and same charges repel each other.

The reason that makes the coil of copper wire to rotate is due to the electricity current supply of the battery which flows always in the same direction. As the copper coil acts like a magnet when electricity flows into it and as the current flows anticlockwise in the coil, it makes it attracted to the south-pole, making the coil turn towards it. However as the north-pole turns towards to the south-pole, the magnet attracts it on the other side making the coil rotate. This is due to the polarity of the electromagnetic fields that vary.
