Jeremy Jackson of the Scripps Institution of Oceanography proposes six steps that may put a hold to the further degradation of the oceans. Jackson has authored a science journal aimed at making the people aware of the drastic changes our oceans are facing with their continued ignorance.

He shifted to mainstream media and, with the help of a filmmaker friend, created web videos. He's first and primary aim is to help the oceans with wider information and current events dissemination to the people who are directly affected by the changes in the oceans.
One of his inferences is that the edible fished in the oceans and seas will face extinction if fishing is not properly monitored. This will have an indirect effect on other levels of the food chain. Other manifestations he predicted are: 1) higher disease epidemic; 2) emergence of toxic algal blooms that may cause red tide; 3) disruption in the cycle of nutrients.
He also eyes the lack of confidence the government exhibits with regards to proposing and passing laws and regulations concerned with ocean conservation.
