How Colors Affect The People English Literature Essay

Colors play an important role in peoples lives. Colors, other than emotionally affecting people, also have physical effects. But, how do colors really affect the personality, mood, and the stress level of the people? Emotional and physical stress is connected with colors because people are quickly carried out by their perceptions. People tend to be affected in everything they see, and these effects involve their performance for a certain period of time due to their perceptions. In this research paper, we yearn to find out the colors that can have both positive and negative effects to people, and on how does this happen.

Color is produced when light is striking an object and reflected back to the eye. The three properties to color are hue, intensity, and value. Hue is the name we give to a color. Intensity is the strength and vividness of the color. Value is the lightness or darkness of color. Shade and tint are in reference to value changes in colors.

The “Real Color Wheel", which is created Don Jusko, is the most interesting color concept discovery. His theory of color corresponds with our new color technology particularly in the world of transparent colors. Dyes enhance the world of natural color around us. The colors we surround ourselves with an expression of feeling that can create certain emotions in us and for others, especially their perception of us. We would not exist without thoroughly knowing and understanding the concepts of color.

In 1666, Sir Isaac Newton, an English scientist, discovered that when pure white light passes through a prism, it separates into all of the perceptible colors. He also found out that each color is made up of a single wavelength and cannot be divided any further into other colors. He also discovered that light could be combined to form other colors.

Balance and harmony are achieved by the visual contrast that exists between color combinations. Investigation and understanding color relationships is the foundation of planning a successful color combination. Complementing colors highly contrast each other, and when placed side by side, enhance the color of the other. They are on opposite ends of the color wheel.

Light waves can be reflected, absorbed, or transmitted. An object is black when no light is reflected and all the wavelengths of light hitting that object are absorbed. The color of anything depends on the type of light sent to our eyes. Light is necessary if we are to have any perception of color at all. An object is colored because of the light it reflects all other colors are absorbed into that specific object. Not everyone sees the same colors or exact same shades of a color. We are capable of seeing color because our eyes have light and color-sensitive receptors.

Color is a powerful communication tool and can be used to signal action, influence mood, and cause physiological reactions. Certain colors can raise blood pressure, increase metabolism, or cause eyestrain. Feelings about color can be deeply personal and are often rooted in experience or culture.

While perceptions of color are somewhat subjective, there are some color effects that have universal meaning. Colors in the red area of the color spectrum are known as warm colors and include red, orange and yellow. These warm colors evoke emotions ranging from feelings of warmth and comfort to feelings of anger and hostility. Colors on the blue side of the spectrum are known as cool colors and include blue, purple and green. These colors are often described as calm, but can also call to mind feelings of sadness or indifference.

Several ancient cultures practiced chromo therapy or using colors to heal. Chromo therapy is sometimes referred to as light therapy and is still used today as a holistic or alternative treatment. Colors have different meanings in different cultures. Research has demonstrated in many cases that the mood-altering effects of color may only be temporary. Studies have also shown that certain colors can have an impact on performance.

Colors can also be used in many different fields and areas. Hospital design directly impacts patient health. Use of color in hospital design has a massive amount of uses. Color can help patients have a sense of orientation. Using the right colors in waiting areas, examination rooms, hallways or patient private rooms can have a distinct affect on patient motivation and stress levels. Green is used in hospitals because it is the easiest color that the eye can take in and it helps lower the stress levels of both patients and health-care people.

Color is all around us. It is the lenses by which we perceive the world. They affect how we feel and react to certain advertisements. Designers of advertisements should be aware of the different responses different colors will bring about and thus have the ability to make the choice of which color to use to enhance their advertisement. Advertising can be enhanced through the use of specific colors to attract attention on the most fundamental level, to support and emphasize products that will appeal to the target group, and to reinforce the underlying meaning of the advertisements.

The direction that a room faces is greatly considered by licensed interior designers and color consultants. Whether it is north, south, east, or west, makes an immense deal of difference to the choice of color scheme. A bedroom that faces east and receives strong sunlight in the early morning will look very different when next seen late at night in artificial lighting. Contrary to popular belief, it is rare for a color blind person to see only in shades of gray. Color blindness occurs when light-sensitive cells in the retina fail to respond appropriately to variations in wavelengths of light that enable people to see an array of colors. Photoreceptors in the retina are called rods and cones. There are approximately 100 million rods in the human retina. Rods are more plentiful and they are more sensitive to light, but they are incapable of perceiving color.
