Language Studies Have Helped Me Education Essay

In 2005, I was awarded with the Peace Scholarship Trust by IDP Education and finished the last two semesters of my Bachelor degree in the University of Southern Queensland. I was grateful for the educational prospect opened to me that I opted the best contribution I can make is serving education in the place I live. Ever since graduating, I have taught English as a foreign language in various contexts such as public elementary and middle levels including a language school outside Mexico.

Furthermore, being a Foreign Language Assistant has been a significant accomplishment in my profession. Last year through The British Council and the Mexican Ministry of Education (SEP), I gained a position as a Spanish assistant in a secondary school in England where I had the opportunity to interact with Modern Foreign Language educators. This meant to me a valuable perception of British culture of professionalism and also an insight of their model of education.

My decision to study a Master Degree in Applied Linguistics is based on my motivation to better be prepared to assume a leadership role in my area of expertise. This line of occupation looks at ways of improving second language teaching and learning, but supported by a high level study. I am also drawn to study a Master’s in Applied Linguistics because this course has characteristics that are relevant for the betterment of Language Education in my country.

I am enthusiastic about the possibility to undertake Postgraduate studies in the UK and the benefits from study abroad. For example, I would engage into British academic environment and maximize occasions of attending conferences, intercollegiate seminars and lectures, therefore have the occasions to meet, interact with academics, specialists, researchers and scholars in the field along with being able to exchange ideas. Thus, the association that I can form with classmates, lectures is I think one of the most important and fruitful things that international education can present. Additionally, I as well as believe education in the UK reflects a hub of the latest developments in theory, technology and trends that British colleges can offer.

I hope to make out the besto from the Chevening scholarsip progaram and be able to apply what I can learn in my region. Firstly, My expectation is to collaborate with bureaucracy, at present, the National Development Plan 2010-2015, points out as one of its objectives is to include the English language subject within the elementary curricular as formal subject. From this perspective, government Policy promises further changes in the future. With the coursework I aim to obtain comprehension on Language Policies and Literacy. By this means, I will actively seek to work closely with school authorities in my province and win attention in the exchange of strategies in designing improvements and innovations in reforms and projects in the public sector.

Secondly, I enjoy teaching and I see myself lf wanting to do the same thing in the future. My primary area of interest is higher education. Currently I am an English language teacher at the university “Tecnologico de Monterrey”, campus Hidalgo. I have found out that I love working with young people. A Master in Applied Linguistics will help me strengthen both the knowledge and the entrepreneurial skills necessary to secure a position as Language specialist in tertiary institutions. Therefore, a postgraduate qualification will expand my role as language teacher.

I would like to find myself lecturing language interdisciplinary subjects in Faculties of Language and Linguistics within Mexican universities. In the same manner, I plan to join college academia and participate as investigator to contribute to academic productivity. In this regard utilize my capacities with the creation of new methods of teaching, examine new standards being proposed, and seek novel ways to improve student achievement, and promote quality teaching. I have become an autonomous, more confident and determined individual which I believe help me to complete Master studies successfully.

On the other hand, I would like to mention that one of the important things in my life has been the engagement in my community. Years ago, I started to spend my weekends and conducted socioeconomic interviews in the slum areas of the city in order to collect data and determine a family profile so the family can benefit from financial support from government programs sponsored by the Secretariat of Social Development. This program combines different activities aimed at infrastructure improvement and gives special attention to the population living in extreme poverty. Most recently, I volunteer in swimming events in my town.

Finally, I will highly welcome the occasion of joining the Chevening international alumni network. I firmly believe undertaking this venture with the cooperation of the British Council and prestigious alliances will lead us to a path toward individual, worldwide prosperity and growth. I look forward to explore new academic opportunities in a dynamic, friendly environment. Additionally, taking the advantages of enhancing my capacities, education and visions would be significant in order to become an agent of change in Mexico and in the UK. I hope that you will make the right decision so that we can take a step towards establishing a more peaceful America and getting rid of one dreadful thing at a time.

Thank you in advance. Yamin Marin Lira

Language studies have helped me to better understand cultures and thought, and it is this better understanding that I believe will assisted me in becoming a more outstanding professional. As an undergraduate, I was fortunate to have been afforded an opportunity to study in Australia. This had had the greatest impact on me not only on many aspects of my own learning, but also carrying out this personal experience of education in different parts of the world which have given me an outlook of education in a global community.
