Elimination of Poverty

Elimination of Poverty

Poverty is one of the major serious problems that the world faces. Poor people are those who cannot afford having the basic needs of life like food, shelter, clean water, and other essential needs like medical health care services. Poverty has many terrible consequences as it increases infectious diseases, illiteracy, crimes, famine, and it also increases death from childbirth. According to the article entitled “Can World Poverty End?”, “Around 30,000 people in the world die every day because they are too poor to stay alive.” (“Can World Poverty End?”). Also, according to reports, one billion people live daily on a dollar or less, and they even go to bed hungry (“UN: Rich countries must double aid to impact poverty fight”). This means that the whole world must cooperate in order to eliminate poverty. Poverty can be eliminated by increasing the developed countries’ aid, enhancing trade with the poor countries, and increasing investments.

The first approach that can eliminate poverty is increasing the developed countries aid. The developed countries are used to give financial assistance to the poor and to the developing countries, but in fact this assistance is not enough. Hundreds of development experts believe that global poverty can decrease to half by 2015 and be totally eliminated by 2025 if the richest countries in world, which are United States, Japan and Germany, more than double their financial assistance to the poorest countries (“UN: Rich countries must double aid to impact poverty fight”). Furthermore, more than 500 million people can escape poverty on the condition that all 22 rich countries give money to these poor countries. Therefore, one of the most significant techniques that can eliminate poverty is raising the rich countries financial assistance to the poor countries.

The second approach that can eliminate poverty is allowing trade with the poor and the developing countries. It is stated in the article entitled “Poverty can be eliminated only through trade” that the developing countries products should have the opportunity to enter the West market, and also the African countries should be permitted to improve their raw materials’ quality in order to be able to increase the value of their foreign trade (Bob Geldof). The developing countries should be enhanced to enter the international trade community in order to be able to form industries that can compete worldwide. For instance, when Asian countries are given this opportunity, they become self-sufficient and their poverty levels have largely declined. Also, it is stated in the article entitled “UN: Rich countries must double aid to impact poverty fight” that “it is in the self-interest of rich countries to support poor countries' development for their own security and for economic growth because new markets will open up.”

The third approach that can eliminate poverty is increasing investments in poor countries. When the developed countries invest in the developing countries, this will help the citizens of the poor countries to be productive members of a fast-paced world economy (“UN: Rich countries must double aid to impact poverty fight”). In addition to that, investment will solve the problems of unemployment and will increase the poor countries’ income.

To conclude, poverty is one of the significant global problems that the world faces. In order to eliminate poverty worldwide, the developed countries or more precisely the rich countries must assist the poor countries. Some of the vital techniques that can eliminate poverty are increasing the rich countries’ financial assistance, permitting trade with the developing countries, and enhancing investments in the poor countries.
