The Gatsby's painting
Colors symbolize and are the essence of many different things. People usually use colors in their drawings or pictures they make when they want you to see their idea of something. For example, like if an artist wants to express sadness or a loss he often uses low toned, dreary colors such as black, blue, and grey. Like That way you can automatically feel or pretty much see and what the artist is trying to express. When the artist uses intense, high toned colors you feel warm and you feel happiness. In the novel The Great Gatsby, F. Scott Fitzgerald uses the same idea and technique. He uses colors to show the many different ideas weaved in and out of the book. Uses of yellow in symbols include deterioration, decadence, and loss.
Then he uses white to give a feeling purity and innocence's. He also uses green and green light to express desire and hopefulness. Even though these are not the only colors that Fitzgerald uses in his masterpiece, I feel they pop out the most and show how colorful this book really is.
Then Fitzgerald uses examples of decay to surround the color of yellow. (Page 18) Fitzgerald wrote " The lamp-light, bright on his boots and dull on the autumn-leaf yellow of her hair." Suggesting Toms decaying path is moving in . and Inside the Great Gatsby there are many signs and situations that tend to prove this. To begin Tom is being unfaithful with a women named myrtle Wilson. On top of that, Tom strongly dislikes Gatsby; like every time he brings Gatsby up he suggests Gatsby Is a lier , and what he says. Baker, Tom even hires a agent type man to prove it. Gats car was always "His station wagon scampered like a yellow brisk-bug . . ." (Page 39). An Vehicle that Gatsby was occupying was talked about in ever event as a "Yellow car" (157).
Death and struggle surrounds yellow. Like right away the author writes how the laid her on a table in the garage and stuff. Its writtin "The garage, which was lit only by a yellow lamp" (153). Wilson was seeming to be in a trance, but kept referring to his car as "Yellow car" (Page157) "That big yellow car" (Page141). And just that vehicle led to his death.
Just before Gatsby was shot by Wilson, Gatsby decided he was going to take a swim in his pool. Gats never did even use his own pool all summer. And The chauffeur man like filled up a mattress for Gatsby he was going to use in the pool. "Gatsby shouldered the mattress and started for the pool". And he haulted and moved it a little, but a guy asked Gatsby are you okay?, but gats then looked and acted like he was fine and " in a moment disappeared among the yellowing trees." Page (161-162) - Probs yet something else that leads to his end.
One thing throughout this this book that again shows something is green. It shows hope... Gats and his now dream Daisy have only seen eachother for a short period before Gatsby had to go. And Then Gatsby got back from it yet then only to find his dream had gone with another guy named Tom. Since he still really cared bout her he didn't like this. - So much Gatsby even pretty much based his life to get to see her. He ended up getting a place that he was able to look at and see out at like a big green light towards the end of her house on a wood dock, and often looked toward it. the boldest color symbolized was green and it gave the big contribute to feelings in the novel. Gats was so near to his goal of having is Daisy. And he;s even struggled and workd real hard to get where he was at, too bad before he could accomplish it he died.
Something else that tended to be used a lot was light and whitish color and It symbolized innocence. and (Page 75) Jordan Baker describes Daisy, like "She dressed in white and drove a little white roadster . . ." like basically what he is meaning is that when she was little she was a big sign of innocence. Again uses white in referencing like innocence and childishness when announcing that the girl "had a white girlhood" on (Page 20). And like it says something about the Entrance or like beginning of gats house being white. Perhaps the exterior was delicate and light but the internally it was not.
Fitzgerald also tends to give many other examples use of coloridea. But like in this book it seems to reveal how people and things use colorsto announce feelingsand memories. We use Dark at funerals, light at weddings, and bloody with war and love. Sometimes kids use tints and shades to say how they feel yet don't even realize It.
