Company Material Garments
When I finished graduation, I decided to join my brother's garments manufacturing factory in Delhi India Kanex Garments. Earlier company was doing well however from past few years' company was not doing good as it was doing earlier. So I decided to join the company as a Manager and take step forward to improve the position of the company, for that I have formed a team to analyse what are the problems going on in the company.
The team have founded that these are the problems that the company is facing because of which the company has lost its reputation during the past few years. And the problems are as follows:
- The quality of the raw material was very low.
- The machinery used for the production of goods was out dated.
- Only few designs of garments are produced.
- The goods were never supplied on time to the customer because of which they lost most of their customers.
- As the company was not doing well the salaries were not given on time because of which most of the employees left their jobs.
- The company had many assets but never really used them to improve the standard of the company.
The quality of raw material used is very low. For reducing the cost of the raw material so that they can make more profits they have used very low quality raw material because of which the quality of goods produced was also low and there were only few companies which used to buy these raw materials which produced low quality garments.
The machinery of the company which is used for good quality production was out dated and not up to the standard of the current market.
The designs of garments which the company produces were very limited and out dated and not follow the current fashion.
Because of old machinery and less raw material the goods never supply on time, so company is losing their existing customers.
Overall company has a bad phase in terms of production, quality, raw material, designs, and losing their customers wherein company has proper funds to improve its overall performance but is not using them and instead they are not giving the salaries on time, result is company losing its employment, which cause attrition in the company which is loss of the biggest assets of the company.

Total Quality Management
TQM is a way of thinking about goals, organisations, processes and people to ensure that the right things are done right first time. This thought process can change attitudes, behaviour and hence results for the better.

Total quality management is a popular "quality management" concept. However, it is about much more than just assuring product or service quality. TQM is a business philosophy - a way of doing business. It describes ways to managing people and business processes to ensure complete customer satisfaction at every stage. TQM is often associated with the phrase - "doing the right things right, first time". This revision note summarises the main features of TQM.
Introducing TQM into a Business
TQM is not an easy concept to introduce into businesses - particularly those that have not traditionally concerned themselves too much with understanding customer needs and business processes. In fact - many attempts to introduce TQM fail!
One of the reasons for the challenge of introducing TQM is that it has significant implications for the whole business.
For example, it requires that management give employees a say in the production processes that they are involved in. In a culture of continuous improvement, workforce views are invaluable.
So "empowerment" is a crucial part of TQM. The key to success is to identify the management culture before attempting to install TQM and to take steps to change towards the management style required for it. Since culture is not the first thing that managers think about, this step has often been missed or ignored with resultant failure of a TQM strategy.

One of the method in TQM is Quality Circle and we are using Quality circle to improve our business.
Quality Circle:- A Human Interface
Quality Circles or Quality Control Circles, as they are called in Japan, is a participative philosophy woven around quality control and problem solving techniques at the bottom level. It epitomizes the policy of people building, respect for human beings and conceives a participative management culture. This concept enables the grass-root level employees to play a meaningful and significant role in their organization. The main purpose behind Quality Circles is to build the people and produce quality people towards making quality products or providing quality services. It is to make a 'Man' productive and knowledge worthy.
Quality circle.. Its Composition?
- It's a small group comprising of 6 to 12 employees doing similar work - They meet together voluntarily on a regular basis for identifying improvements in their respective work areas. - Their aim to achieve and so also to sustain excellence towards mutual upliftment of employees as well as the organization.
Undercurrent of Quality Circle:-
The objectives of Quality Circles are multi-faced. a) Change in Attitude. -From "I don't care" to "I do care" -Continuous improvement in quality of work life through humanization of work. b) Self Development -Bring out 'Hidden Potential' of people -People get to learn additional skills. c) Development of Team Spirit -Individual Vs Team - "I could not do but we did it" -Eliminate inter departmental conflicts. d) Improved Organizational Culture - Positive working environment. -Total involvement of people at all levels. -Higher motivational level.
Step 1: Identify a Problem
The first step is to identify the problem and to state the problem accurately. For example the problem identified is `Reports Cannot be Printed Within The Time Period Specified'. Start the Cause and Effect Diagram with an arrow pointing from left to right towards the problem:-
We trying to solve these problems by using quality circle
- The machinery used for the production of goods was out dated.
So we thought of changing the machinery and get the latest machine to be in the market.
- Only few designs of garments are produced.
Search for the latest fashion, developed team spirit and improved organizational culture to get new ideas.
- As the company was not doing well the salaries were not given on time because of which most of the employees left their jobs.
As we are facing the problem of attrition, so avoid this problem we give employees empowerment to make their own decision. Management give some power to their employee to get some new ideas to create latest design and improve production.
- The company had many assets but never really used them to improve the standard of the company.
We made a group to find out what are the important things that we need now so that we can makeover the standard of the company.
By using quality circle we are able to solve these problems.

TQM Tools
Here follows a brief description of the basic set of Total Quality Management tools. They are:
- Pareto Principle
- Scatter Plots
- Control Charts
- Flow Charts
- Cause and Effect , Fishbone, Ishikawa Diagram
- Histogram or Bar Graph
- Check Lists
- Check Sheets
Pareto Principle
The Pareto principle suggests that most effects come from relatively few causes. In quantitative terms: 80% of the problems come from 20% of the causes (machines, raw materials, operators etc.); 80% of the wealth is owned by 20% of the people etc. Therefore effort aimed at the right 20% can solve 80% of the problems. Double (back to back) Pareto charts can be used to compare 'before and after' situations. General use, to decide where to apply initial effort for maximum effect.

Pareto Analysis is a statistical technique in decision making that is used for the selection of a limited number of tasks that produce significant overall effect. It uses the Pareto Principle (also know as the 80/20 rule) the idea that by doing 20% of the work you can generate 80% of the benefit of doing the whole job. Or in terms of quality improvement, a large majority of problems (80%) are produced by a few key causes (20%). This is also known as the vital few and the trivial many.
The 80/20 rule can be applied to almost anything:
- 80% of customer complaints arise from 20% of your products or services.
- 80% of delays in schedule arise from 20% of the possible causes of the delays.
- 20% of your products or services account for 80% of your profit.
- 20% of your sales-force produces 80% of your company revenues.
- 20% of a systems defects cause 80% of its problems.
The Pareto Principle has many applications in quality control. It is the basis for the Pareto diagram, one of the key tools used in total quality control and Six Sigma.
The value of the Pareto Principle for a project manager is that it reminds you to focus on the 20% of things that matter. Of the things you do during your project, only 20% are really important. Those 20% produce 80% of your results. Identify and focus on those things first, but don't totally ignore the remaining 80% of causes.

Here we trying to solve these problems by using Pareto rules
- The quality of the raw material was very low.
20% of system defects cause 80% of its problems ,so we intend to use high quality raw material and improve the quality of production .
- The goods were never supplied on time to the customer because of which they lost most of their customer.
80% of delays in schedule arise from 20% of the possible cause of the delays, so we use this rule and implement in such a way that minimum time maximum output which is 20% of efforts and 80% output. Here we implement time management by using Pareto rules.
By using Pareto rules we are able to solve these problems.
Conclusion
In this article first we talked about the company and then we discussed about the problems of the company and then we have used total quality management to solve those problems of the company and we mentioned few methods to resolves those problems which are quality circle and Pareto rules.
